JACC depends on volunteers to conduct many of the activities of the organization. While some staff members receive stipends for their work, the backbone of the organization is its volunteers. Each year at the state convention those volunteers are recognized with Extra Mile Awards, because they've gone an extra mile in helping JACC. Also each year one non-stipend volunteer is recognized as the volunteer of the year with the "Rich Cameron Volunteer of the Year Award." In 2003 Cameron was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service and the Volunteer of the Year Award was named after him. Winners of the award have included:

2010 - Spenser Holloday (Las Vegas Sun)

2009 - Jorge Media (OC Register) and Zach Gillon (Santa Barbara)

2008 - Paul McLeod (Saddleback/LA Harbor)
2007 - Nancy Kincaid (Sacramento State)
2006 - Gerard Burkhart (Santa Monica) and Roger Vargo (Pierce)
2005 - Curtis Corlew (Los Medanos)
2004 - Pat McKean (Long Beach)
2003 - Edgard Aguilar (Rio Hondo)
